Understanding Your Health Score

What the health score means and how to improve it.

What is the Health Score?

The health score is a single number from 0 to 100 that represents the overall SEO health of your website. It's calculated based on the issues found during your audit, weighted by their severity and impact.

Score Ranges

  • 90-100 (Excellent): Your site has minimal issues. Focus on maintaining quality.
  • 80-89 (Good): Solid foundation with room for improvement. Address any critical issues.
  • 60-79 (Fair): Notable issues that may be impacting rankings. Prioritize fixes.
  • 40-59 (Poor): Significant SEO problems. Immediate attention needed.
  • 0-39 (Critical): Major issues blocking search visibility. Requires urgent action.

How It's Calculated

The health score considers multiple factors:

Issue Severity

Not all issues are equal. The score weighs issues by their impact:

  • Critical issues have the highest weight
  • Warnings have moderate weight
  • Notices have minimal weight

Issue Prevalence

An issue affecting 100 pages hurts your score more than the same issue on 1 page. The calculation considers:

  • Percentage of pages affected
  • Whether issues are on important pages (homepage, main categories)
  • Patterns suggesting systemic problems

Category Scores

The overall score is composed of weighted category scores:

  • Technical SEO (25%): Crawlability, indexing, site structure
  • On-Page SEO (25%): Titles, descriptions, headings, content
  • Performance (20%): Page speed, Core Web Vitals
  • Mobile (15%): Mobile-friendliness, responsive design
  • Content (10%): Quality signals, thin content, duplicates
  • GEO (5%): AI visibility optimization

Improving Your Score

Quick Wins

These fixes often have immediate impact:

  • Add missing meta descriptions
  • Fix broken links (404 errors)
  • Add alt text to images
  • Fix duplicate title tags
  • Ensure proper canonical tags

High-Impact Fixes

These require more effort but significantly improve your score:

  • Improve page load speed
  • Fix Core Web Vitals issues
  • Resolve indexing problems
  • Improve mobile experience
  • Add structured data

Score Over Time

Track your score over time to measure progress. With scheduled audits, WebAudit monitors your score and alerts you when it drops significantly.

A consistent upward trend indicates your SEO efforts are working. Sudden drops may indicate new issues that need attention.
